NBA veteran Jarron Collins stopped by the HuffPost Live studio Thursday to chat about the whirlwind reaction to his brother Jason Collins' announcement that rocked the sports world: "I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay."
After Jason came out of the closet on the cover of Sports Illustrated, he got a call from President Obama, and the entire family, including Jarron, would sit down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey days later. But it all began with a conversation between brothers, Jarron told HuffPost Live host Jacob Soboroff.
Jarron said that he and his twin typically have a "jovial" and "light" relationship, so he immediately knew something serious was up when Jason asked to have a discussion.
"When he put the bass in his voice saying, 'I need you to sit down,' I was like, what's going on?" Jaron Collins said. "When he told me it was definitely a surprise, so I had questions for him -- some of the dumbest questions you could possibly ask someone who has just come out to you, like, 'Are you sure?'"
