Billy Crystal could be heading to primetime on FX.

Crystal has landed the title role in FX's comedy pilot "The Comedians." On the potential series, Crystal will play a veteran comedian, who is paired with a "younger, edgier" comedian for a late-night show.

“It truly is an honor to be in business with Billy Crystal and Larry Charles, two of the all-time greats in comedy,” FX president John Landgraf, said in a statement. “We have also wanted for some time to be in business with Matt Nix, who has done such an amazing job creating and running 'Burn Notice.' They, along with Ben Wexler, are an unbeatable team and we’re incredibly excited about this project.”

If FX picked up "The Comedians," it will mark Crystal's first regular comedy gig since his mid-'80s "Saturday Night Live" stint.
