HBO has picked up Michael Lannan's gay-themed dramedy starring Jonathan Groff to series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The currently unnamed show, which is slated for eight episodes, stars Groff as one of three friends living in San Francisco along with Frankie J. Alvarez ("Smash") and Murray Bartlett ("Guiding Light," "Damages).
"Bored to Death's" Sarah Condon, David Marshall Grant and Lannan will serve as executive producers on the new series, while Lannan also wrote the pilot directed by Andrew Haigh. HBO is targeting a 2014 premiere date with production set to begin in the fall.
HBO did not immediately return request for comment.
