Viewers have seen plenty of chefs compete for various prizes -- and the pleasure of getting thrown out of the kitchen by Gordon Ramsay -- but E! decided to try a different approach to the world of cooking. "Playing With Fire" is a new reality series that follows several big players in the New York culinary world, taking viewers behind-the-scenes of the cutthroat world of high cuisine.
For an example of how much every little thing matters in this world, E! Online pointed out that the most dramatic moment in the episode was over a cheesecake. Chef Julie Elkind had ditched last year's hit pumpkin cheesecake flavor to try a maple cheesecake. And she almost gave herself a nervous breakdown over it.
"I do not take failure very well. If they don’t like the maple cheesecake, then what?" she lamented. Luckily, she never had to figure out the "what" as the cheesecake went over very well.
But Eater didn't seem too excited about the show. Even before it premiered, they seemed pleased that viewers would only be subjected to six episodes of this series.
The culinary drama continues every Sunday on "Playing With Fire" at 10 p.m. ET on E!
