Since they were spotted together on "The X Factor" set last month, reports have been flying that Taylor Swift and One Direction's Harry Styles are dating.
But last night (Dec. 7) at Z100's Jingle Ball presented by Aeropostale at Madison Square Garden, the rumored-to-be couple walked the red carpet separately and stayed mum on the status of their relationship. (Actually, Swift skipped interviews entirely).
When Styles was asked by a reporter what the last romantic thing he did was, the singer smiled shyly and was pulled away by his rep. So, what did his bandmates -- Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Liam Payne -- have to say about Styles' budding romance?
"I'm happy that they're good friends," Tomlinson told The Huffington Post backstage, with a smile. "I've met [Taylor] before and she’s a lovely girl."
Styles and Swift spent most of their time offstage together and were reportedly very affectionate with each other, according to The Examiner. The 18-year-old boy-bander was in Swift's dressing room for most of the time One Direction was backstage. The couple also left the arena together, although Styles was heading out to London last night for a performance on Dec. 8 at the O2 Arena.
Swift, who turns 23 on Dec. 13, recently opened up to British Cosmopolitan about her failed attempt at a long-lasting romance.
"I've never had a really long relationship, so I have no idea what that's like," she explains in the January issue. "Wish me luck for the future!"
What she does know though is that it doesn't matter how old someone is, as long as there's a spark.
"I really don't have any rules about dating when it comes to height, age, career choice, anything like that," Swift, who has dated guys from Conor Kennedy, 18, to John Mayer, 35, reveals. "It's really more about strength of character. When it comes to age, I've been all over the map."
"She's a very warm-loving person and she kind of spreads that around to her fans and family and friends," Ed Sheeran, who sings "Everything Has Changed" with Swift, told HuffPost about why a guy would be lucky to date the country cutie. "I think if a guy pinned her down, they'd be happy with that."
